World Cities Summit 2012: Dr. Cheong Koon Hean

In July of 2012 at the World Cities Summit in Singapore, the IFHP Travel Squad in coordination with DAC met with Dr. Cheong Koon Hean, whom was appointed the Chief Executive Officer of HDB in August 2010, overseeing the development of public housing, which houses some 82 % of Singapore’s population. She is concurrently Deputy Secretary (Special Duties) in the Ministry of National Development in charge of land reclamation issues.

We asked Dr.Cheong Koon Hean the following questions:

1. What are the qualities that characterize a sustainable city?

2. What are the three challenges, in your opinion, are the most pressing in cities today?

3. What do you think are the most promising initiatives in making cities more sustainable?
Can you list three projects/cities and elaborate on it?

4.In terms of housing, what can other cities learn from Singapore?
