Utzon Center

Part of the new Aalborg waterfront, the Utzon Centre is a centre for dissemination of art, architecture and design, inspired by Jørn Utzon. The centre also includes an Utzon archive, a library and a lecture hall; all under the aegis of Aalborg University.
The building consists of a series of building masses of bricks and concrete, placed around an outdoor courtyard. A cloister encircles the courtyard and allows for a view through the centre to tie it all together. It also serves to allow for both sunlight and shelter in the courtyard.
The whole scenario is completed by an interplay of varying sculptural roof shapes that can also be seen from the inside rooms to which they add different kinds of concealed lighting.
The building won an award in 2008.
