The Danish National Business Archives, the former national library

Erhvervsarkivet, which was built as national library, occupies a monumental position on the south slope by Århus Å. It is a historicist building with decorations and ornaments from many different styles. Above the main entrance is e.g. a relief showing a woman watering the tree of knowledge, and along the eaves is a row of owls symbolising wisdom and knowledge. The central room is a richly decorated reading room with three large vaulted ceilings with roof lights. The ceiling decorations are by the artist Karl Hansen Reistrup, who also made part of the ornamentation in Århus Teater.
