The studiovilla of J.F. Willumsen
With an exterior like a fantasy version of a castle from the Middle Ages and an interior like a labyrinthine spiral, the studio villa can be seen as part of the artist’s protest against the conventions in art and architecture of the period.
J. F. Willumsen (1863-1958) is primarily famous for his artworks, but the studio villa is considered one of his chief works. He spent most of his time in France or travelling. Willumsen was, in his days, considered to be one of the most provocative and internationally oriented artists in Denmark.
Architecture and painting were just two out of many artistic expressions which Willumsen used as an artist.
