Meet Copenhagen on your bike
Encounter the city on your bike. Choose among six different bicycle routes. Cross Copenhagen’s new urban areas and experience the way new architecture and new urban spaces breathe life into the old districts.
Nørrebro / Nordvest – 13,5 km >
At Nørrebro you can see how a concerted effort has created new opportunities for relaxation and physical activity in the public space. The bicycle route leads you through green spaces such as Nørrebroparken, Superkilen and Nordvest-parken, all of which constitute vibrant meeting places for a varied audience. The endpoint of the tour is the bicycle bridge over Ågade, but if you feel like it, you can continue from here along the green cycle path towards Frederiksberg (see route 2).
Frederiksberg - 12 km >
Bryggebroen bridge and the green cycle paths provide new connections for vulnerable road-users. On the way from Islands Brygge to Frederiksberg you visit Vesterbro, where pedestrians, cyclists, and better opportunities for physical activity, have been the focus of the development of Sønder Boulevard and the public spaces on the Carlsberg site. Frederiksberg’s new squares form landscaped backdrops to the green cycle path, and the tour ends at Flintholm, where a new district is taking shape.
Sydhavn (Harbour, South) – 13,5 km >
Industry has moved away from Copenhagen’s harbour front, leaving the space for a range of new initiatives. In between the boat clubs, industrial plants and allotment societies in the South Harbour new residential housing, institutions and commercial premises are emerging, eventually converting the harbour into Copenhagen’s new recreational space. See the harbour’s new face and the eclectic mix of old and new on a bike ride around the South Harbour.
Ørestad – 7 km >
New architecture to one side and Amager Common to the other. Explore Copenhagen’s new big city district on this tour through the three parts of Ørestad. From Ørestad North, a new district occupied by knowledge and media organisations such as DR-Byen, the national Danish broadcasting corporation, and the Tietgen Hall of Residence, through Ørestad City, the centre with Bella Sky Hotel and Ørestad Gymnasium, and finally onwards to Ørestad South where the activity area Plug N Play and the new types of housing provided in 8House border on Kalvebod Common.
Amager Øst – 10,5 km >
On this tour around the eastern part of Amager you will experience various stages of the revitalisation programme for the local neighbourhoods at this end of town. From the area around The Prism and Prags Boulevard you continue to the Sundholm quarter and Øresundsvej, a neighbourhood facing new development. Finally the tour takes you to Amager Beach, where you can visit Kastrup Sea Baths and get a close look at the ongoing construction of the future aquarium The Blue Planet.
Amerika Plads – 9,5 km >
The focus of this tour to Amerika Plads is the transformation of the harbour from industrial site into a space for experience. The ride takes you by the Danish Royal Theatre’s new buildings in the inner harbour where a new bridge will link the city districts on either side of water. At Amerika Plads a new quarter has been built along the waterfront, and further along you cycle past Nordhavnen which is to be developed as a sustainable, future-proof district. The tour ends at the new Svanemølle Beach where you can take a dip in the sea.
